Radikon Jakot 2020 500 ml
RadikonGrape: Tocai Friulano
Vintage: 2020
Type: Orange
This skin-contact orange wine is a pure varietal expression of tocai friulano packaged in a traditional five-hundred milliliter bottle. The organically farmed fruit grows on mineral-dense ponca soils composed of layered marl and sandstone on the steep slopes of Oslavia. Winemaker Saša Radikon implements a three-month skin maceration inside large open oak vats with native wild yeasts and zero temperature controls. It matures for three to four years in large neutral casks followed by a year of bottle resting.
It pours a deep amber color, releasing complex aromas of dried apricot, yellow plum, candied orange peel, and dried chamomile flowers. A medium-bodied frame balances stone fruit flavors with a powerful, tea-like tannin structure from the extended skin contact. A fine phenolic grip frames mid-palate cleanly, balanced by a sharp beam of alpine acidity. Notes of almond skin and white spice add depth across the textured mouthfeel.
Radikon is one of the foundational names of the modern skin-contact and natural-wine movement. Based in Oslavia, in Friuli near the Slovenian border, the Radikon family built its identity around long macerations for white grapes, minimal sulfur and a deeply traditional approach that had become radical by modern standards. Stanko Radikon helped bring these methods to international attention, and the estate continues under his family with Ribolla Gialla, Jakot, Pinot Grigio and other varieties. The wines are amber, structured and savory, less about novelty than about reviving a borderland culture of patience, texture and uncompromising farming.
