Grape: Malvasía
Vintage: 2022
Type: Orange

This small-batch orange wine is a pure varietal expression of malvasía produced by Goyo García Viadero and Diana Georgieva in Ribera del Duero. The fruit is hand-harvested from high-altitude plots of old vines grown on poor, calcareous clay terraces. The winemaking incorporates a two-week skin maceration driven entirely by native wild yeasts inside neutral stainless steel tanks, completely avoiding wood barrels. It rests undisturbed on its fine fermentation lees and is bottled without filtration or added sulfur.

It displays a bright straw-orange hue, releasing complex aromatics of white tea, allspice, star anise, and roasted almond. A medium-bodied frame balances stone fruit flavors of apricot and peach with a waxy texture. A fine phenolic grip frames mid-palate cleanly, balanced by a sharp beam of mineral acidity. Subtle notes of jasmine and fresh ginger peel add depth across the textured mouthfeel. It finishes completely dry, leaving a lingering trace of chalky salinity.

The Garcia Georgieva winery is a partnership between husband-and-wife winemakers Goyo García Viadero and Diana Semova Georgieva. Operating out of Ribera del Duero in Spain, they are renowned for producing elegant, natural wines that reflect traditional winemaking methods and a deep respect for their terroir. Goyo García Viadero comes from a prominent Ribera del Duero winemaking family but has chosen to follow a traditional, minimal-intervention path, rejecting modern trends like intense extraction and new oak. Inspired by natural winemakers in the Jura region, he focuses on organic farming, old vines, and letting the terroir speak for itself. Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wines are aged in old French oak barrels or stainless steel tanks in a cold, ancient Roman-era cellar dug out of limestone bedrock. No additives, fining, or filtration are used in their process.
