Château Le Puy Rose-Marie 2024
Chateau Le PuyGrape: Merlot
Vintage: 2024
Type: Rosé
This rosé wine is 100% merlot, made by bleeding juice off one of Le Puy's red vats early in fermentation. The juice then finishes fermenting and ages in old barrels for 6 to 8 months, unusual for a rosé. It is made without additives and bottled unfiltered and without added sulfites. Production is tiny in most years.
It pours a vivid deep rose-cherry, opening with wild strawberry, raspberry, and peony. On the palate, the light-bodied frame balances fresh red fruit with a soft, barely-there grip. White flowers and a stony note sit underneath. Bright acidity keeps it playful and refreshing. It finishes dry, crisp, and clean.
Winery
Château Le Puy is a historic winery in the Bordeaux region of France, recognized as a pioneer in biodynamic and natural winemaking. The Amoreau family has owned and farmed the property since 1610, resisting the use of chemical products and commercial trends for centuries. The estate has never used synthetic fertilizers or pesticides and was among the first in France to gain organic and biodynamic certifications. They maintain a balanced, self-sustaining ecosystem by preserving a significant portion of their land as forests and wild areas. The winery briefly gained international attention when its 2003 vintage was featured in the Japanese manga series The Drops of God. Following a dispute over appellation rules in 2017, the winery left the Francs Côtes de Bordeaux appellation and bottles its wine as "Vin de France" to maintain its traditional winemaking style.
