Domaine de la Grand'Cour Fleurie Clos de la Grand Cour Magnum 2022
Jean-Louis DutraiveGrape: Gamay
Vintage: 2022
Type: Red
Presented in a magnum format for slow development, this red wine showcases the performance of gamay on pink granite soils. Jean-Louis Dutraive harvests the fruit by hand from the historic walled Clos de la Grand Cour single vineyard in Fleurie. The winemaking involves a traditional whole-cluster carbonic maceration driven entirely by native wild yeasts in neutral vats. It ages for over a year in neutral French oak barriques to allow the components to settle naturally without wood makeup.
It exhibits a translucent ruby hue, opening with fragrant aromatics of wild raspberry, blood orange, fresh violets, and white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied and tightly structured, balancing primary red fruit with a distinct mineral tension. Firm, fine-grained tannins provide a tactile grip across the mid-palate volume without being aggressive. A sharp, clear thread of granite acidity keeps the palate refreshed and focused. It finishes dry and persistent, leaving a savory impression.
Jean-Louis Dutraive is the fourth-generation vigneron behind Domaine de la Grand'Cour in Fleurie, one of the benchmark estates for naturally made Beaujolais. His family holdings include old vines in Fleurie, Brouilly and Brouilly's neighboring crus, with the core of the domaine centered on organically farmed vineyards around the Grand'Cour property. Dutraive's wines are made with native yeasts, whole clusters, long semi-carbonic fermentations and very little sulfur, giving them the lifted aromatics and silky structure that make Fleurie feel both delicate and complete. They are transparent wines, but never fragile, full of red fruit, flowers and granite energy.
