Grape: Nebbiolo
Vintage: 2018
Type: Red

This red wine is crafted from the rare nebbiolo Rosé clone at the Cascina Baricchi estate, presented in a magnum format for slow development. The fruit is hand-harvested from a single vineyard parcel grown on clay-limestone soils in the Barbaresco region. The winemaking involves a traditional low-intervention fermentation with native wild yeasts and a prolonged skin maceration. It ages for several years in large neutral oak casks before a final natural settling period prior to bottling.

It shows a garnet-ruby color, releasing a perfumed nose of dried roses, violets, dark plums, and fresh spice. A medium-bodied, well-structured frame showcases a harmonious balance of fruit, acidity, and fine-grained tannins. Savory notes of damp earth, licorice, and subtle tobacco leaf develop nicely as the fluid mouthfeel expands. A clean thread of natural acidity runs through the center, keeping the texture fresh. It finishes long, dry, and clean, leaving a lingering mineral trail.

Cascina Baricchi is a small, traditional, family-owned winery located in the Piedmont region of Italy, known for crafting elegant, age-worthy Barbaresco. Led by Natale Simonetta and his wife Francesca, the estate is a champion of the rare Nebbiolo Rosé clone, which contributes to the wines' delicate and complex character. The winemaking is staunchly traditional, with foot-crushing for gentle extraction, long fermentations, extended maceration, and aging in large, neutral oak barrels. They use only natural yeasts for fermentation.
