Grape: Dolcetto
Vintage: 2022
Type: Red

Grown organically on steep marl and limestone hillsides around Bricco di Neive, this small-batch red wine showcases dolcetto. Winemaker Fabio Gea adopts a low-intervention mindset, fully destemming hand-harvested grapes before a spontaneous native-yeast fermentation. The fruit undergoes an extended three-week skin maceration to draw out structural depth and savory nuance. Aged in signature handmade porcelain and stoneware vessels rather than wooden barrels, this bottling establishes an authentic site identity.

It pours a deep, opaque ruby-purple color, opening with aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry, wild bramble, and raw cocoa powder. On the palate, the full-bodied framework balances a rich texture with a sharp line of limestone acidity. Savory flavors of oil-cured black olives and flowering thyme seamlessly wrap around a dense mouthfeel. A full framework of fine-grained, chalky tannins builds across the tongue, yet the porcelain aging keeps the mid-palate fluid. It finishes intensely dry and long.

Fabio Gea:

Fabio is a young winemaker making delicious, distinctive wines from tiny parcels around the Bricco in Barbaresco. He makes 18 different wines with a total production of around 5,000 bottles.

He has a few rows of vines from his grandfather’s property and rents a few more. Within the family’s property, there is Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, and Grignolino, which amount to less than one hectare.

A geologist turned winemaker, the handmade labels, bottles, and aging are uniquely Fabio Gea. We find these wines fascinating, one of our great joys is having such distinctive wines. Organic (not certified)
