Fabio Gea La Msoira e'l Rastel Green Palma Barbera d'Alba 2022
Fabio GeaGrape: Barbera
Vintage: 2022
Type: Red
Sourced from old barbera vines ranging up to ninety years of age, this red wine represents a traditional look at local fruit. Winemaker Fabio Gea utilizes a hybrid aging regime, combining small neutral wooden barrels with custom stoneware jars. Destemmed grapes undergo a three-week native maceration, relying on wild yeasts for gentle extraction. This low-intervention cellar process focuses on structural balance and regional character, establishing an authentic, site-driven identity without modern wood styling.
It pours a dark cherry-red color, releasing an inviting bouquet of black raspberries, tart cranberry, fresh potting soil, and exotic baking spices. A smooth, well-structured frame showcases a harmonious balance of fruit and high-toned acidity. Savory notes of cherry skin and dark stones develop nicely as the fluid mouthfeel expands. An electric thread of natural acidity cuts through the center, keeping the concentrated body weightless. It finishes long and dry, leaving a savory trace.
Fabio Gea:
Fabio is a young winemaker making delicious, distinctive wines from tiny parcels around the Bricco in Barbaresco. He makes 18 different wines with a total production of around 5,000 bottles.
He has a few rows of vines from his grandfather’s property and rents a few more. Within the family’s property, there is Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, and Grignolino, which amount to less than one hectare.
A geologist turned winemaker, the handmade labels, bottles, and aging are uniquely Fabio Gea. We find these wines fascinating, one of our great joys is having such distinctive wines. Organic (not certified)
