Grape: Teroldego
Vintage: 2021
Type: Red

This low-intervention red wine comes from the cooler, sandier Sgarzon vineyard plot on the Campo Rotaliano plateau. The Foradori family cultivates the teroldego vines using biodynamic principles, harvesting the massale cuttings manually. The destemmed grapes undergo open-top spontaneous fermentation and an eight-month skin maceration inside clay tinajas. For this special Cilindrica version, a small selection matures for an additional full year in a smaller, cylindrically shaped clay vessel before bottling without sulfur.

It displays a bright ruby hue, releasing clear aromatics of wild pomegranate, sour cherry, and fresh rose petals. On the palate, a medium-bodied, texturally driven frame pairs crunchy red fruit with a fine-grained tannin structure. Savory notes of forest floor and wet stone build a clean profile across the fluid mouthfeel. A clean wave of mountain acidity cuts through the texture, maintaining great freshness. It finishes bone-dry, leaving a light, unmanipulated mineral trace.

Foradori is a pioneering, biodynamic winery renowned for elevating the indigenous Teroldego grape to world-class status. Led by the influential Elisabetta Foradori since the 1980s and now by her children, the estate is known for its minimal intervention winemaking, vibrant wines, and commitment to expressing its unique volcanic and dolomitic terroir. Elisabetta is widely credited with rescuing the Teroldego grape from obscurity, transforming it from a common blending grape into a revered, single-varietal wine. The winery also produces exceptional white wines from other native and local varieties, including Nosiola and Manzoni Bianco. The estate has been farmed biodynamically since the early 2000s and was certified by Demeter in 2009. This holistic approach emphasizes biodiversity, a healthy ecosystem, and minimal human interference.
