Sourced from late-harvested old vines on the razor-steep, blue slate slopes of the Trittenheimer Apotheke in the Middle Mosel, this Spätlese captures the site's intense mineral concentration and extended hang-time. The fruit is hand-picked at peak ripeness and fermented spontaneously with wild yeasts in neutral vessels, allowing the natural sugar-acid balance to settle without artificial intervention. Fermentation stops naturally, leaving a pristine core of natural fruit sweetness grounded by the vineyard's cool-climate slate character. Bottled with minimal handling, this is a dense, high-acid Mosel white built for long cellar evolution.

A radiant straw-gold hue opens to concentrated aromas of ripe white peach, glazed pineapple, candied lemon peel, and crushed blue slate. The palate is rich, layered, and tactile, unfolding deep flavors of yellow plum, honeyed lime, wet stone, and wild chamomile. A sharp, driving line of natural acidity cuts directly through the wine's lush mid-palate density, creating an electric, weightless balance between sweetness and tension. It finishes long, dry-feeling, and distinctly saline, leaving a lingering trail of citrus zest, smoky slate, and stone fruit.

Winery

Weingut Unterlind is the small Mosel project of Veronika and Heiner Bollig, whose shared professional experience at Egon Müller helped shape their approach to Riesling. Heiner comes from Trittenheim, while Veronika grew up in Austria’s Tyrol; the estate’s name comes from her family farm there. The first parcels were taken on at the end of 2019, with the initial vintage following in 2020. Vineyards in Trittenheim, Brauneberg and Leiwen give the couple several steep-site expressions to work with.

Much of the planting material is old and own-rooted, providing a strong connection to the Mosel’s vineyard heritage. Careful soil work and a close understanding of each parcel underpin a range devoted to Prädikat Rieslings. The Trittenheimer Apotheke Kabinett and Spätlese show different degrees of ripeness and concentration from the same celebrated slope. The wines balance fruit and sweetness with a fresh, persistent structure, carrying the couple’s experience into a project of their own. Unterlind’s individuality comes from those particular vineyards and the contrast between a very small estate and the depth of knowledge behind it.
