Rodolphe Demougeot Pommard Charmots Premier Cru Le Coeur des Dames 2018
Rodolphe DemougeotGrape: Pinot Noir
Vintage: 2018
Type: Red
This premier cru red Burgundy is a pure Pinot Noir crafted by Rodolphe Demougeot from the Les Charmots parcel in Pommard. The estate manages the old vines under certified organic viticulture protocols, focusing on manual techniques on steep clay and limestone slopes. The hand-picked grapes undergo a traditional whole-cluster fermentation driven by native wild yeasts in neutral open wood vats. It undergoes an extended maturation process, aging for several months in seasoned oak barrels before bottling unfiltered.
It pours a dark ruby color, releasing an inviting bouquet of sour cherry, black currant, woodsmoke, and warm spices. On the palate, the medium-to-full-bodied frame is structured and balanced, pairing concentrated red fruit flavors with a firm, fine-grained tannin profile. Savory notes of dried leaves and forest floor blend into the fruit core across mid-palate. A clean line of natural acidity cuts through the volume, maintaining excellent freshness.
Rodolphe Demougeot is a Meursault-based grower whose wines have steadily gained attention for their clarity and honest Cote de Beaune character. After taking over family holdings, Demougeot moved the domaine toward more careful farming, reduced yields and a cleaner, less marked cellar style. He works across Meursault, Pommard, Beaune, Savigny-les-Beaune and other nearby appellations, producing both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The wines are not showy; they rely on balanced ripeness, measured oak and a steady sense of texture. They offer Burgundy in a grounded register: precise, approachable and increasingly refined.
