he 2007, showing remarkable elegance, presented refined notes of iron and bright acidity, with a core of pure cherry and subtle truffle undertones, indicating a lighter vintage that prioritized finesse. The 2008 vintage displayed a more robust character, with a deeper concentration of fruit and a pronounced earthy minerality, showcasing the vintage's structure and aging potential. Finally the 2009, with it's riper fruit profile, showed a wonderful balance of richness and complexity. All three vintages displayed the hallmark Clos Rougeard characteristics of complex aromatics, and refined textures. This vertical tasting was a great display of the wines ability to age, and show the differences that vintage variations can bring to a wine.

Clos Rougeard is a legendary, cult-status winery located in the Saumur-Champigny appellation of the Loire Valley, France. For decades, it was led by brothers Charly and Nadi Foucault, who were widely considered pioneers for their traditional, organic, and low-intervention approach. The estate is renowned for producing exceptionally pure and age-worthy Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc wines from its old vines. The Foucault brothers insisted on organic farming methods long before they were widespread in the region, avoiding chemicals and focusing on low yields to produce concentrated fruit. Due to their limited production and critical acclaim, Clos Rougeard's wines are incredibly rare and highly valued by collectors.
