Wasenhaus Spatburgunder 2022
WasenhausGrape: Pinot Noir
Vintage: 2022
Type: Red
From Baden, Germany, comes this elegant and refined Spatburgunder, Pinot Noir. 100% whole cluster fermented, with some carbonic maceration, offering pure bright fruit aromas on the nose with subtle herbal notes. On the palate, an explosion of red fruits, bubble gum, and a hint of herbal notes. Chill it a bit, and drink it all day. Review by Marcelo
Vasenhaus is the Baden project of two German friends, Dorli Muhr-trained and Burgundy-influenced, who built their reputation around Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from limestone-rich sites near the Kaiserstuhl and Markgraflerland. After experience in Burgundy, they brought back a small-domaine mentality: careful sourcing, native ferments, whole-cluster work where appropriate and aging that supports rather than covers the fruit. The wines are elegant, pale and aromatic, closer in spirit to Burgundy than to the heavier style sometimes associated with warm Baden. Vasenhaus shows German Pinot as a language of finesse, spice and mineral clarity.
