Grape: Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir
Vintage: 2025
Type: Rosé

Sourced from the extreme sandstone slopes of the biodynamically farmed Bassi Vineyard, this dry rosé blurs the lines between white and red wine. Winemaker Mikey Giugni harvests the pinot gris and pinot noir simultaneously, destemming the fruit into open-top fermenters for a twelve-day joint skin maceration. This co-fermentation allows the skins of both varieties to share tannins, color, and texture as one cohesive unit in the cellar.

It glows with a striking, hazy copper-pink hue, opening with expressive aromatics of wild strawberry, blood orange zest, and dried hibiscus. On the palate, the skin contact provides a light, structural grip of fine-grained tannin that anchors the wine's fluid texture. Bracing ocean acidity slices right through the crunchy red fruit profile, maintaining an effortless weightlessness across mid-palate. Underscores of damp earth add a savory depth to the center. It finishes intensely dry, leaving a wave of coastal salinity.

Scar of the Sea is the coastal California project of Mikey and Gina Giugni, focused on vineyards shaped by ocean influence, old vines and patient farming. Based on the Central Coast, the winery works with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, Gamay and cider apples from sites in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and beyond. The name points to the Pacific's constant mark on the landscape: fog, wind, salt and cool light. Fermentations are native, extraction is gentle and the wines favor energy over weight. Scar of the Sea helped define a more transparent, maritime style for modern California wine.
