Domaine de la Grand Cour Fleurie Clos de la Grand Cour 2022
Jean-Louis DutraiveGrape: Gamay
Vintage: 2022
Type: Red
This estate red wine showcases a pure expression of gamay from the walled Clos de la Grand Cour single vineyard in Fleurie. Jean-Louis Dutraive manages the site under strict certified organic practices to cultivate fruit with natural structural harmony. The grapes are hand-picked and fermented whole-cluster using native wild yeasts, avoiding commercial adjustments or heavy extraction techniques. Aged entirely in neutral French oak barrels, it preserves a distinct granite soil signature.
It shows a bright ruby color, releasing refined aromas of fresh cherry, raspberry, and delicate violet blossoms. A medium-bodied frame balances ripe red fruit flavors with an underlying silky mouthfeel across the tongue. A bright, natural acidity drives the wine, ensuring freshness and drinkability even in its youth. Fine-grained, chalky tannins provide a smooth structural grip that coordinates nicely with the fruit. It finishes clean, dry, and persistent, leaving a lingering trail of crushed stone.
Jean-Louis Dutraive is the fourth-generation vigneron behind Domaine de la Grand'Cour in Fleurie, one of the benchmark estates for naturally made Beaujolais. His family holdings include old vines in Fleurie, Brouilly and Brouilly's neighboring crus, with the core of the domaine centered on organically farmed vineyards around the Grand'Cour property. Dutraive's wines are made with native yeasts, whole clusters, long semi-carbonic fermentations and very little sulfur, giving them the lifted aromatics and silky structure that make Fleurie feel both delicate and complete. They are transparent wines, but never fragile, full of red fruit, flowers and granite energy.
