Grape: Garganega

Type: Orange

The Cantina La Bacheta Luna Garganega Maceration 2023 is a captivating natural orange wine that showcases the rich, textural side of Garganega. It presents a hazy amber-gold color and offers aromatic layers of dried apricot, citrus peel, toasted nuts, and a touch of savory earthiness. The palate is dry and complex, marked by a velvety structure, pronounced minerality, and a gentle grip from the tannins, resulting in a full-bodied, persistent, and contemplative finish. This wine is made from 100% certified organic Garganega grapes grown in the moraine hills near Lake Garda. The winemaking is non-interventional, featuring a unique approach of semi-carbonic fermentation followed by an extended three-month whole-bunch skin maceration in stainless steel, with bottling timed according to the lunar cycle, and no additions of sulfur.

Cantina La Bacheta is a small, certified organic winery located in the village of Custoza, nestled on the morainic hills surrounding Lake Garda in the Veneto region of Italy. The estate is run by winemaker Giorgia Quintarelli and her partner, Simone, with a philosophy rooted in the meticulous preservation of the vineyard's integrity and a focus on expressing the essence of the local terroir. The four hectares of vineyards are spread across sandy and gravelly glacial soils and cultivated with indigenous varieties, primarily Garganega and Corvina, with vines ranging from 20 to 60 years old.

The winery practices minimal intervention in both the vineyard and cellar, aiming to produce natural wines. Their portfolio highlights pure expressions of the native grapes, including a zero-dosage *Metodo Classico* sparkling wine (*Renaissance*) and still wines like the pure Corvina red (*Isa*) and a unique skin-contact Garganega (*Luna*), often made without added sulfites. The name Custoza, meaning "custody" or "guard," inspires their commitment to safeguarding the land and its biodiversity, maintaining trees, and integrating gardens and orchards into the estate's operations.
