Amorotti Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo 2021
AmorottiGrape: Montepulciano
Vintage: 2021
Type: Rosé
Crafted by Gaetano Carboni in the historic village of Loreto Aprutino, this Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo is made from organically farmed montepulciano grapes. The vines are rooted in deep clay and limestone soils situated three-hundred and fifty meters above sea level near the Gran Sasso mountains. The winemaking embraces old-school methods, featuring a spontaneous native yeast fermentation followed by a full year of aging in large neutral Slavonian oak casks. This traditional regimen avoids standard commercial styling to produce a serious pink wine built for longevity.
It pours a vibrant, deep rose color, opening with fragrant aromatics of wild strawberry, pomegranate, and blood orange peel. The palate is structured and medium-bodied, steering away from simple, sweet rosato profiles. Tart red fruit and sour melon flavors are supported by a robust vein of mineral salinity. A crisp, driving acidity cuts through the textural weight, while a savory note of toasted sesame emerges.
Amorotti:
Amorotti is a fairly new project ,2016 being their first vintage. Gaetano Carboni makes three standout wines traditional to Abruzzo, (a white) Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, and two made with the red Montepulciano grape (a light red/rose) Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. These three wines mary seriousness of intention and delicious, bright uplifting fruit profile. The wines are distinctive while being approachable, made in a low intervention manner, native yeast, spontaneous fermentation, minimum sulfur.
The vineyards have belonged to the family for over a century and certified organic since 2009.
The industrialization of wine is the end of its identities, its nuances, its characteristics which are part of the magic of a bottle.
