Sadon Huguet Expression Calcaire "14" Rouge 2019
Sadon HuguetGrape: Blend
Vintage: 2019
Type: Red
This low-intervention red wine is an artisanal estate bottling produced by the Sadon Huguet family project in the Loire Valley. Sourced from small organically managed plots, the Pinot Noir fruit grows on thin limestone topsoils that lock in high acidity. Spontaneous fermentation relies on native vineyard wild yeasts in neutral concrete vats, completely avoiding modern extraction adjustments. It undergoes a natural maturation process, aging in seasoned French oak barrels to allow the structural components to settle.
It displays a clear ruby hue, releasing a fresh bouquet of wild raspberry, sour cherry, and delicate floral spice. A light-to-medium-bodied frame is fluid and energetic, focusing on an unmanipulated, high-toned fruit presentation. Soft, fine-grained tannins provide a gentle grip that structures the fluid mouthfeel nicely without feeling heavy. A clean wave of limestone acidity cuts through the texture, maintaining great freshness. It finishes completely dry and crisp, leaving a light trail of stone.
Bénédicte Laborde (Huguet) and Mathieu Huguet, are consulting enologists in Bordeaux specializing in organic and biodynamic farming. Bénédicte most notably as the former enologist for Margaux’s Rauzan-Ségla and Saint-Emilion’s Château Canon.
Sadon Huguet is their tiny “zero-zero” personal project made without any additives which they started in 2019.
