This low-intervention white wine is crafted from hidden old-vine plots of Grüner Veltliner hidden within the Burgenland landscape. Winemaker Roland Velich salvages these historic vineyards rooted in complex limestone and primary rock soils to preserve genetic heritage. The hand-harvested grapes are pressed slowly and undergo a completely spontaneous fermentation driven by native wild yeasts in neutral vessels. The liquid matures undisturbed on its fine fermentation lees inside old wooden casks to encourage natural structural harmony.

It displays a bright gold hue, releasing a complex nose of ripe pear, yellow plum, chamomile, and warm spice. On the palate, the full-bodied framework balances a rich, waxy texture with a sharp line of mountain acidity. Savory flavors of walnut shell and dried herbs seamlessly wrap around a texturally detailed, dense mouthfeel. A strong vein of maritime salinity cuts through the center, keeping the profile fresh. It finishes long, dry, and highly complex.

Moric is Roland Velich's project in Burgenland, and one of the estates most responsible for restoring Blaufrankisch to serious conversation. Instead of treating the grape as a simple, fruit-driven red, Velich approached it with the sensitivity usually reserved for Burgundy: old vines, specific villages, restrained extraction and aging that emphasizes structure over gloss. The wines come from places such as Lutzmannsburg and Neckenmarkt, where limestone, schist and old vine material give Blaufrankisch depth, spice and nerve. Moric's best bottles are savory and transparent, proving that Austria's great red grape can be both intellectual and deeply pleasurable.
