This regional red wine is a pure varietal expression of Blaufränkisch sourced from the Maissner parcel in Central Burgenland. Winemaker Roland Velich focuses on younger estate vines rooted in sandy loam and gravelly soils to deliver a fresh profile. The hand-picked grapes are destemmed and ferment spontaneously with native wild vineyard yeasts inside neutral stainless steel and open vats. The liquid matures in large seasoned oak casks to allow the structural components to integrate without wood dominance.

It pours a clear ruby color, opening with high-toned aromatics of fresh red cherries, cranberries, and wild field flowers. On the palate, the light-to-medium body is exceptionally fluid and precise, focusing on an energetic, fruit-forward presentation. Soft, fine-grained tannins provide an understated structural grip across the fluid core without feeling heavy or extracted. An energetic thread of natural acidity cuts through the center, maintaining great freshness. It concludes with a crisp, dry finish.

Moric is Roland Velich's project in Burgenland, and one of the estates most responsible for restoring Blaufrankisch to serious conversation. Instead of treating the grape as a simple, fruit-driven red, Velich approached it with the sensitivity usually reserved for Burgundy: old vines, specific villages, restrained extraction and aging that emphasizes structure over gloss. The wines come from places such as Lutzmannsburg and Neckenmarkt, where limestone, schist and old vine material give Blaufrankisch depth, spice and nerve. Moric's best bottles are savory and transparent, proving that Austria's great red grape can be both intellectual and deeply pleasurable.
