A Chingao Vineyards Raj Parr & Envinate Misturado de Cambria 2021
Phelan Farm & EnvinateGrape: Mencía, Trousseau, Palomino
Vintage: 2021
Type: Red
This unique red blend of mencía, trousseau, and palomino represents a collaborative effort combining Raj Parr’s coastal California site with the low-intervention viticulture of Spanish collective Envinate. Cuttings were sourced from Galician vineyards and grafted onto regeneratively farmed vines in the cool maritime environment of Cambria. The hand-picked grapes are co-fermented whole-cluster using native yeasts and bottled without filtering or fining. By avoiding conventional cellar styling, this zero-zero cuvée channels a shared transatlantic focus on maritime freshness and transparent site expression.
It pours a vibrant ruby color, opening with aromas of fresh raspberry, red cherry, and wild plum. On the palate, the light-to-medium body reveals a distinct pepper nuance and wild herb complexity. A bright, coastal salinity runs beneath the fruit flavors, providing a refreshing structural baseline. Silky, understated tannins integrate smoothly with a clean mineral core. It finishes bone-dry and savory, leaving a light, peppery impression.
Phelan Farm & Envinate is a collaboration that brings together Raj Parr's coastal California vineyard and the Spanish collective Envinate. The connection makes sense: both sides are obsessed with farming, volcanic or marine-influenced soils, low-intervention cellar work and wines that feel transparent rather than branded. From Phelan's cool Cambria site, the Envinate team helps interpret California fruit with the same sensitivity they bring to Tenerife, Ribeira Sacra and Almansa. The resulting wines are less about a transatlantic novelty than a shared language of place: whole clusters, native yeasts, lift, salt and a refusal to over-explain the vineyard.
