Chateau de Beru Athenais Aligoté Bourgogne White 2021
Chateau de BeruGrape: Aligoté
Vintage: 2021
Type: White
This white wine is a pure varietal bottling produced by Athénaïs de Béru from organic and biodynamically managed vineyards in Burgundy. The aligoté grapes are hand-picked from rows rooted in thin topsoils packed with limestone and clay. The winemaking follows low-intervention principles, utilizing spontaneous native yeast fermentation and zero modern adjustments in the cellar. It ages in old, neutral oak barrels to encourage texturally driven development while keeping heavy wood flavors out of the equation.
It pours a pale straw color with green highlights, opening with clean aromas of green apple, lemon blossom, and mountain herbs. A medium-bodied frame balances orchard fruit flavors with a chiseled, chalky mineral undercurrent. A racy vein of natural acidity cuts right through the slightly waxy texture, keeping the mouthfeel lively. The neutral wood contact provides a structural cushion that softens the lean framework avoiding heavy weight.

Chateau de Beru
The Béru family have owned the historical Château de Béru domain for 400 years. At the beginning of the 20th century when the phylloxera crisis hit all the vines were uprooted leaving the estate without its source of income. It was only in 1987, that the Comte Éric de Béru, out of passion for wine, undertook to replant the entire vineyard, and in particular, the famous monopole vineyard Clos Béru. His daughter Athénaïs runs the domain now and has transformed the farming to certified Biodynamic practices. Her first vintage was 2005 and in the years that have followed she has become one of the most revered and influential winemakers in Chablis.
Its terroir was formed during the Kimmeridgian era and is mainly composed of crushed limestone and marine fossils.
