A. Berger Origine Brut NV
Champagne A. BergereGrape: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier
Vintage: NV
Type: Sparkling
Based in the Vallée du Petit Morin, this non-vintage Champagne is crafted by the Bergère family from estate vineyards in Fèrebrianges, Étoges, and Congy. The blend consists of seventy percent chardonnay, twenty percent pinot noir, and ten percent pinot meunier, built around a single base year with added reserve wines. Vinification prioritizes freshness, utilizing a low dosage of four grams per liter to let the regional identity show through. The wine undergoes traditional secondary fermentation and extended cellar aging before disgorgement.
It pours a pale lemon-yellow color with a fine, persistent stream of bubbles. The nose opens with delicate aromas of white peach, nectarine, and toasted almond mixed with warm pastry. A creamy yet linear mousse brings a balanced mix of juiciness and structure. Fresh, crisp acidity cuts through the mid-palate flavors of green apple and citrus rind. It finishes clean and dry, leaving a refreshing, chalky mineral impression.
Champagne A. Bergère is rooted in Fèrebrianges, a village in the Vallée du Petit Morin in Champagne, France. Run by fourth-generation winemakers, the estate has evolved from selling grapes to becoming a respected grower-producer, particularly since Adrien Bergère took over as winemaker in 2014. The family has been moving toward certified organic farming methods, with a portion of their vineyard already certified and a commitment to working sustainably. In the cellar, Adrien experiments with different vessels, including barrels and foudres, and uses spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. This approach results in complex, terroir-driven Champagnes with low or zero dosage.
