Morganti, daughter of the influential oenologist Enzo Morganti, pulled her wine out of the Chianti Classico DOCG in protest of rules she felt favored industrial producers, so the wine carries only a Toscana IGT designation despite its pedigree. Fermentation runs in traditional open-top wooden vats, and the wine ages entirely without oak. Le Trame means \"the intrigues,\" a nod to the maneuvering it took just to acquire the land.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt displays a translucent ruby color, opening with red cherry, violet, and dried herb, unshaped by any oak influence. On the palate, the medium-bodied frame is pure and direct, balancing bright red fruit against fine, sandy tannin. Acidity runs high, true to sangiovese grown without concession to ripeness. Nothing here is softened by wood.
